More About Madison

Madison is a community located in Morris County, with a wide range of housing opportunities, anywhere from garden apartments to larger residences. Residential areas are characterized by tree lined streets and local parks which provide great spaces for recreation. Located downtown is a thriving central business district, with great shopping and dining establishments frequented by locals and others from the surrounding counties. Close proximity to New York City, reachable by NJ Transit railways and conveniently located highways make Madison an ideal place to commute from as well.

Town History

Madison was first settled in 1715 and was included in the provision for Chatham Township in 1806, which it seceded from to become an independent town in 1889. Madison grew tremendously after the Civil War with the establishment of the Morris and Essex Train Line, which allowed efficient transport of produce, and a flourishing rose-growing community to develop. The town then became popular as a residence for wealthier families after the Second World War, and has continued to grow since.
